‘Goal is to keep Greece in Euro’ – German Chancellor A. Merkel

FXStreet (Mumbai) - German Chancellor A. Merkel is crossing the wires now via Reuters while the Bundestag vote on Greece reforms is underway.

Merkel said that “(EU’s) goal is to keep Greece in Euro,” while clarifying that “Germany won't agree to debt cut for Greece.” She also said that alternative to Greek aid is “predicable chaos.”

She acknowledged that the Greek aid package is not only tough for Greek people, but equally tough for rest of euro area. Adding further, she concluded, “Germany does well only when Europe does well.”

EUR/USD stuck below 1.0900, Bundestag eyed

The European currency keeps the bid tone intact versus its American in the European morning, albeit EUR/USD struggles to regain 1.09 handle, amid lack of fundamentals to have major impact on the pair. While markets now look forward to the Bundestag vote on Greece deal and the key US macro releases due later tonight.
