Fed's Evans: QE taper to start 'later this year'

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Chicago Fed President Charles Evans signalized today that the central bank could begin tapering its bond purchases later this year, but he did not specify when exactly could that happen. He also added that interest rates would remain close to zero for at least two more years.

Evans noted the improvement of the US economy, lamenting however its sluggish pace. He expressed hope that the country would expand by over 3% in 2014 and that inflation would rise slowly toward 2%.

Nevertheless, he emphasized that „the U.S. economy has a long way to go to return to healthy normalcy."
